Full Terms and Conditions for our Shakespeare Week Diary Writing Competition 2024

  1. By submitting an entry, you agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions of entry. Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of applicants under 18 must provide consent and agree to the Terms and Conditions on behalf of the applicants.
  2. You agree to indemnify the SBT (and its partners) against any claim from any third party for any breach of the Terms and Conditions.
  3. The SBT reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions from time to time and any updated version will be effective as soon as it is published on the Shakespeare Week Diary Writing Competition page.

The Competition

  1. This competition is open to all primary school aged children, except any employee of or person directly connected with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) and their immediate family members. Proof of age may be required.
  2. Applicants must obtain consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) before entering the competition.
  3. The competition is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
  4. The SBT reserves the right to refuse entry or to refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of the Terms and Conditions or the spirit of the Terms and Conditions.

Your Entry

  1. Entries should be submitted by 10 May 2024 and include the entrants’ name, age and nominated contact details for notification of any prizes as applicable (see How to Enter on our competition page).
  2. Any entry must be your original work and it must not infringe the rights of third parties including copyright, trade mark, trade secrets, privacy, publicity, personal or proprietary rights.
  3. Full copyright title shall be retained by the author of any entry. By submitting any entry to the SBT you agree to grant the SBT a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub-licensable right and worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, display and exercise all publicity rights with respect to your entry, and/or to incorporate your entry in other works, in any media now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in your entry, and in accordance with privacy restrictions set out in SBT’s Privacy Policy.
  4. By submitting an entry, you agree to waive any moral rights contained in your entry. Any entry you provide shall be non-confidential.
  5. All entries must be submitted by post or email to Shakespeare Week Competition, The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, The Shakespeare Centre, Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6QW. We will accept email entries that include images or short videos as well as word documents or PDFs and these must be submitted by email to [email protected]
  6. Entries cannot be returned unless a stamped addressed envelope with the correct postage is provided.
  7. Entries must be received by 5pm on 10 May 2024. Any entry which is late, incomplete or inappropriate will be deemed invalid at the discretion of the SBT.
  8. The SBT accepts no responsibility for damaged or lost entries.
  9. The SBT (including its partners) shall not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage or for any costs, claims or demands of any nature whatsoever arising directly or indirectly out of the use of your entry or any part thereof.

Winners and Prizes

  1. The judges shall assess the entries and one winner from each category (4-7 years, 8-11 years (equivalent to Years R to 6 at primary school)) plus one whole school entry will be selected. The judges’ decisions shall be final. No correspondence regarding the results will be entered into.
  2. Full details of prizes can be found on our competition page. All other incidental expenses and costs that may be associated with the acceptance, receipt and use of the awarded prize, including travel expenses, are solely the responsibility of the prize winner.
  3. Winners and runners-up will be notified by email (using the details provided at entry) within 21 days of a decision being made and must provide a postal address to claim their prize. If a winner or runner-up does not respond to the SBT within 21 days of being notified by the SBT, then they will forfeit their prize and a replacement winner or runner-up will be selected from the other applicants.

20. Prize bundles will be sent by post within 28 days of the winner responding to notification from the SBT that they have won.

21. Prizes are non-exchangeable, non-transferable and no cash alternative is offered.

22. The SBT reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if necessary.

23. Insofar as is permitted by law, the SBT (including its partners) will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize, except where it is caused by the negligence of the SBT, its partners or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.

24. The winners’ names will be published in the online and physical exhibitions of the competition.

Data & Privacy

25. The SBT takes your privacy very seriously; we will only use your personal information in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and the SBT Privacy Policy. By submitting an entry, you confirm that you have read and agree to the terms of our Privacy Policy.

26. Any personal data submitted will be held securely and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018. Personal data supplied may be passed on to third party suppliers only insofar as required for fulfilment/delivery/arrangement of the prize.

27. The winner may be required to participate in publicity related to the competition which may include the publication of their name and photograph in any media. You agree that your personal data may be used for this purpose.

28. For the avoidance of doubt, by submitting your entry you warrant that all persons featured in your entry have given you their express consent for their image, voice or other details to be used and, in the case of vulnerable adults or persons under 18 years of age, you warrant that you have obtained express consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
