In celebration of Shakespeare Week, pupils and teachers are invited to join us for an exciting Shakespeare special event at Gawthorpe Hall, Padiham, Burnley 16th - 20th March 2020. Interactive, hands-on activities include:
- What do we really know about William Shakespeare?
Pupils will take part in a timeline activity to learn about Shakespeare's life and plays. They will discover what historical evidence tells us about Shakespeare, and what we only think we know…
- Game, set and match! Shakespearian tennis
Using one of Shakespeare's famous soliloquys, pupils will take part in a game of 'Shakespearian tennis' in the stunning surroundings of Gawthorpe Hall's Long Gallery. They will also learn what Shakespeare contributed to the English language.
- Tudor blackwork
Pupils will begin a piece of Tudor blackwork inspired by shapes seen in the architecture of Gawthorpe Hall.
- Shakespearean swordplay
Pupils will handle authentic replica Tudor weaponry and examine how Shakespeare used swordplay within his plays.
Suitable for KS2 and 3 pupils. Schools can book either a morning (10am - 12pm) or afternoon (12:30pm - 2:30pm) session. £4 per LCC pupil, £4.50 per non-LCC pupil, all accompanying adults free of charge.
